Rarely, and only small ones. Sometimes a shedding hair gets stuck at the opening of the follicle and leaves a tiny dot that clears on its own. Keep the area clean for the first 24 hours and use a gentle scrub after a few days. And don't plan a long journey in the first 24 hours where the area will rub.

Sweating stays the same: the laser targets the pigment in the hair, not the sweat glands. Odour is usually weaker, because sweat doesn't cling to the hair — in a 2020 study, 19 out of 30 women rated their sweat odour as better after underarm laser hair removal. Sometimes the smell is different from usual for a while, as the skin and its natural bacteria adjust.

No. There's a corner with micellar water and cotton pads, and I disinfect the skin before the session anyway. It's not something I even notice.

After every client I clean and disinfect the couch and the laser handpieces with Velox Foam Extra (Medisept), following the manufacturer's instructions. I disinfect my hands and gloves with Sterillhand (Alpinus Medica), and before the session I cleanse your skin with an octenidine antiseptic.

No. The laser uses infrared light at 808 and 940 nm — non-ionising radiation (ICNIRP). It doesn't carry enough energy to damage the DNA in your cells, the way X-rays and sunbed UV do. The light hits the pigment in the hair follicle a few millimetres under the skin and turns into heat. Lymph nodes and breast tissue sit deeper. A review of research on lasers and IPL found no evidence of a credible cancer risk (Lasers in Medical Science, 2017). I cover moles with white paste, and any mark that worries you gets checked by a dermatologist first.

No. The laser works on hairs that are in the growth phase on the day of the session. The rest are resting and wake up a few weeks later — that's the next batch, not a failure. That's why a course is 6–8 sessions. So we don't judge the result on the day of your visit — we invite you exactly when the next batch has grown in. We judge it at peak smoothness, about 3 weeks after a session: if you stay smooth longer than before the course, or the hair grows back finer, lighter and sparser, the laser is working. Our guarantee is based on the same check.

No. Even with full XL coverage, hair comes back in patches — not every hair is in the growth phase, and each follicle has its own rhythm. It evens out by the end of the course.

Blonde and light brown hair with pigment respond well — we've had successful courses on fair hair on arms, legs and underarms. Not sure about yours? At the free consultation I'll do a few test pulses with settings for your hair, and over 2–4 weeks you watch whether it falls out — shedding is the sign the laser is working. Grey, red and very fair hair doesn't respond to the laser.

For years. A hair the laser has destroyed won't grow back.
