What the research says

Even earlier generations
were among the best.

Four papers on MeDioStar lasers in peer-reviewed medical journals. The studies cover earlier generations. Monolith is the sixth: a 10 cm² XL handpiece and up to 5000 W of power.

  • MeDioStar · 1st generation · 2003 · vs LightSheer — the best-known diode laser

49% vs 48% less hair after 6 months. Even the first generation matched the legend.

  • MeDioStar · 1st generation · 2003 · 810 nm

79% less hair after 6 months — after only 3 treatments.

Sadick and Prieto, Dermatologic Surgery · 24 women, 3 treatments · PubMed

  • MeDioStar XT · 2nd generation · 2010 · vs IPL

The same result, pain 3 vs 6. Half the pain.

  • MeDioStar NeXT PRO · 5th generation · 2023 · vs home IPL

85–88% less hair vs 46–52% after home IPL.

How to check the laser in any salon

  1. Rating plate. Manufacturer, model and serial number — on the housing, usually at the back or side.
  2. Laser class. A medical laser carries a warning label with its class, usually 4. IPL is a lamp, not a laser.
  3. Service report. The serial number in the report must match the rating plate. Inspections are done once a year.

A good salon will show you these three things without a fuss. We show them to everyone.

Questions

Diana answers

Is MeDioStar a laser or IPL?

A laser. A medical diode laser from Jena, Class 4. IPL is a flash lamp with broad-spectrum light, not a laser beam. In a randomised study the MeDioStar laser gave the same result as IPL with half the pain.

Is it really one of the best lasers in the world?

Yes. MeDioStar Monolith has the largest hair removal handpiece in the world — 10 cm², two wavelengths in one pulse and 360° cooling. In 2019 it was named best hair removal laser of the year in Barcelona and won the Perła Dermatologii Estetycznej — the first and only hair removal laser ever to do so.

What does a 10 cm² handpiece give me?

A faster, more even treatment. One flash covers 10 cm² of skin, so there are fewer passes and fewer spots that can be missed. I do backs and legs faster than with a typical laser with a 1–4 cm² handpiece.

Will the laser work on my light hair?

If it has pigment — yes. I remove blond and light brown hair with good results; sometimes it takes 1–2 extra treatments. Grey, white, red hair and peach fuzz — no. I'll tell you at the consultation, before you pay anything.

I have dark skin. Can I have it?

Yes. I work on every skin phototype, from I to VI. The best results are on phototypes I–V. On very dark skin I adjust the settings and start with a test patch. Just avoid a fresh tan.

Does it hurt?

The treatment is comfortable. On a 1–5 scale clients usually feel 2–3: like a light micro-current or the snap of a small rubber band. The handpiece cools the skin with every pulse, and I keep asking how it feels and adjust the settings.

Can a laser cause cancer?

No. The laser uses infrared light at 808 and 940 nm — non-ionising radiation. It doesn't carry enough energy to damage the DNA in your cells, the way X-rays and sunbed UV do. The light hits the pigment in the hair follicle a few millimetres under the skin and turns into heat. A review of research on lasers and IPL found no evidence of a credible cancer risk (Lasers in Medical Science, 2017). I cover moles with white paste.

What do CE, MDR, FDA and Health Canada mean for this laser?

They are medical device registrations in three markets. CE · MDR — compliance with the EU Medical Device Regulation. FDA 510(k) K192483 and K240816 — cleared for sale in the US. Health Canada, licence 106801, Class III — approved in Canada. On top of that, the manufacturer holds ISO 13485. You can check every number yourself in a public database.

How do I check which laser a salon uses?

Ask for three things: the rating plate (manufacturer, model, serial number), the laser class label and the latest service report. The serial number in the report must match the plate. Our documents are on this page — and you'll see them in person at the consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually 6–8. At first every 4–10 weeks, depending on the area: underarms and bikini more often, legs and back less often. Then the gaps get longer. You'll get an exact plan at the consultation.

Can I have the treatment right after the consultation?

Yes. The consultation is free. If there are no contraindications and your skin is prepared, I do the treatment the same day.

Who performs the treatments?

Only me — Diana. I completed MeDioStar Monolith operator training (Beautymed Solutions, 6 March 2026) and I run every visit: from the consultation to the last treatment. Nobody else touches the laser or the handpieces.
